DISCURSO A LA NACION DEL PRESIDENTE CONSTITUCIONAL DE HONDURAS, ROBERTO MICHELETTI





Buenas Noches. Hoy el pueblo hondureño es, nuevamente, protagonista en el escenario político internacional. 

Como huésped provisional en la embajada de Brasil, el ex presidente Manuel Zelaya ha regresado de modo irregular a Honduras.

A pesar de ello, nuestro país está en calma. Prevalece la ley y el orden; y no hay informes de disturbios ni violencia. Y así va a permanecer Honduras. 

Hago un llamado a todos mis conciudadanos a permanecer tranquilos. La presencia del Sr. Zelaya en el país no cambia nuestra realidad. 

El pasado 28 de junio, el ex Presidente Zelaya fue removido de su cargo legalmente, por decisión de la Corte Suprema de Justicia y Congreso de este país. 

Como lo estipula el Artículo 30 de nuestra Constitución, al decidir regresar a Honduras, el Sr. Zelaya acepta su deber de presentarse ante las autoridades para enfrentar los cargos en su contra por repetidas violaciones a las leyes de Honduras. 

No queda claro por qué ha regresado ahora a Honduras el Sr. Zelaya. Solo él lo sabe. Pero yo no puedo arribar a otra conclusión más que está aquí para continuar obstaculizando la celebración de nuestras elecciones el próximo 29 de noviembre, como lo ha venido haciendo desde hace semanas. 

Pero su presencia en el país tampoco cambia el compromiso de todos los hondureños con el proceso electoral, el cual comenzó bajo el propio mandato del Sr. Zelaya hace casi un año y culminará con las elecciones presidenciales el 29 de noviembre. 

Mi gobierno respeta el estatuto internacional de la representación brasileña en Honduras. 

Esto, pese a que Brasil no nos ha extendido la cortesía de reconocer al gobierno Constitucional de Honduras. 

Hago un llamado al gobierno de Brasil a que respete la orden judicial dictada contra el Sr. Zelaya, entregándolo a las autoridades competentes de Honduras. El Estado de Honduras está comprometido a respetar  los derechos del Sr. Zelaya al debido proceso.

Los ojos del mundo están puestos sobre Brasil y también sobre Honduras; no dejemos que las pasiones de unos pocos manchen la reputación e imagen de nuestra gente. 

El problema que se le ha presentado a Honduras, es uno de naturaleza interna, que debe ser resuelto por autoridades Hondureñas y conforme a su derecho interno.

Este no es un problema que concierna a la paz y la seguridad internacional.

Confiados en el respeto al derecho, defenderemos nuestra democracia representativa, nuestra soberanía y autodeterminación, juntos gobierno, pueblo y sociedad civil.

SPEECH TO THE NATION BY THE CONSTITUTIONAL PRESIDENT OF HONDURAS ROBERTO MICHELETTI

 
 
Good Evening. Today, the Honduran people are once again a protagonist in the international political stage. 
 
As a temporary guest of the Brazilian embassy, former President Manuel Zelaya has returned to Honduras in an irregular way. 
 
Despite that, our country remains calm. Law and order prevail; and there are no reports of riots or violence. And Honduras shall stay like that. 
 
I call on all my fellow citizens to stay calm. Mr. Zelaya’s presence in the country does not change our reality.  
 
Last June 28, former President Zelaya was legally removed from his post, by decision of our nation’s Supreme Court and Congress. 
 
As Article 30 of our Constitution dictates, by deciding to return to Honduras, Mr. Zelaya accepts his duty to face the authorities and the charges against him for repeatedly violating Honduras’ laws.  
 
It is unclear why Mr. Zelaya has returned now to Honduras. Only he knows. But I cannot surmise another conclusion but that he is here to continue standing in the way of the November 29 elections, as he has been doing for weeks. 
 
His presence in the country does not change the commitment of all Hondurans to the electoral process that started under Mr. Zelaya’s own 
government almost a year ago and that will culminate with the November 29 elections.  
 
My government respects the international statute by which Brazil is represented in Honduras. 
 
This is the case, despite the fact that Brazil has not extended to us the courtesy of recognizing the constitutional government of Honduras. 
 
I call on the Brazilian government to respect the court order against Mr. Zelaya, by handing him over to the relevant Honduran authorities. The Honduran State is committed to respecting Mr. Zelaya’s right to due process. 
 
The eyes of the world are placed over Brazil and also Honduras; let us not allow that the fervor of a few stain the reputation and image of our people. 
 
The problem that Honduras faces is an internal one that should be resolved by the Honduran authorities in compliance with domestic laws.
This is not a problem of concern to international peace and security.
 
Relying in the respect of law, we will defend our representative democracy, sovereignty and self-determination, together government, people and civil society.
